MySQL Server Hosting?
Apr 29th
Question by gamedezyner: MySQL Server Hosting? This is an interesting one…
I’m looking for a hosting service for JUST a MySQL database/server. I don’t want web hosting, as I already have a solution for that. I’m willing to pay for it, as long as it is a reasonable price.
The reason I want a database host is to keep the costs of storage down. I was using a VPS solution, but the only way to get a large enough hard drive to hold all the MySQL data is to increase everything else. This in turn increases the total cost well More >

Apr 29th
Question by Donavon B: I have a lot of space on a shared hosting server. Is there a way to backup my computer to that? I bought web hosting for a sort of personal website and there are no space or bandwidth limits. So, I was wondering if maybe there was a way to back up my computer to this space and possibly let a few others do so as well? I don’t think I’m allowed to install any applications server side. I personally am using Mac OS X Leopard, but would be interested in Windows and Linux solutions More >

Can you host a file that is downloaded from a wap site off a http web server?
Apr 23rd
Question by Kevin G: Can you host a file that is downloaded from a wap site off a http web server? I am slightly confused about how WAP sites work. They use urls in the same way as normal sites e.g. something.mob would be resolved by DNS to point to the server rendering the wap site. The wap site is then just in a particular mark up right? Which means the wap site could provide a link to download a file from anywhere else on the internet? Thanks!

Apr 21st
Question by Banuazizi: How do I run a web server with 2 websites with different DNS names ? I have a webserver running: Abyss from aprelium.com and I have Dynamic DNS so for example something.dyndns.org points to my web server. How do I make it so that somethingelse.dyndns.net points to a website I am hosting as well (on the same IP), but to a different folder for example that has a whole different website on it, like how the major web site hosts do. Some web hosts run multiple websites on single IP.

Answer by brisrayYou don’t need a special computer to be a web server. It depends more on the software than the computer itself. If you do this remember that nearly all ISPs do not like you using a consumer connection to run web servers from. There are also legal implications, you are responsible for everything that gets served by that server.
