I have a piczo website and I’m kinda tired of piczo. It has too many ads and I want to leave piczo for another webhost. Does anyone know of something better than piczo that is FREE and a short URL for a sub-domain? Please don’t say the following:

Question by On Middle Ground: Does it make a difference in Search Engines if you host a website with a local web hosting provider?
This is part of a debate I’m having. I don’t think it makes and difference if I host a site locally or with a company 3000 miles away, but thought I’d check with the masses. Any thoughts?

It wouldn’t make a difference because the world wide web (the Internet) is virtually everywhere at the same time. Location does not matter.

But it all depends on which search engines you submit your site to. If you submit it to US search engines than your site will mostly be listed in US engines. If you want world wide than take the time to submit to all major search engines in alll the countries they offer their services.

I would start with Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

Does the folder have a file called index.html or index.htm inside? If yes, it will work, otherwise, no.

It’s not about visits per day, etc. It’s about how much bandwidth is being processed at any given visit. With that said, a hosting company with high bandwidth allowance and large hosting space is what you’re looking for.

GoDaddy.com is great for huge bandwidth with large hosting space and their prices are really good because not only do you get a great service, but customer support is awesome as well.

Both Hostgator and Dreamhost are good. The best deal you will probably get right now is the $ 65 off coupon dreamhost just came out with, which is 65OFFHOSTING. If you simply want to make files available for personal use, setting your home computer up as a web server is fine. However, if you want to host a web site from your home computer, it may not be possible. Many home broadband ISP’s terms of service disallow hosting a public web site from computers on their network. Also, most consumer broadband connections have slow upload speeds, which means with any significant traffic, the site will load very slowly. For hosting web sites, a web hosting service is the best way to go.

You definitely could, but you leave yourself open to vulnerabilities, and you also kill your connection. If you’re running on cable or DSL, I’d highly recommend you pay like $ 7 a month at HostGator.com – that’s pocket change for something much better than your own desktop.

host your self…make people pay you to host there stuff. All you need is a crapy computer with server software and high speed internet…use a monitor mouse and keyboard to set the stuff up then remove the stuff and your done. A server does not need a mouse keyboard or monitor to work…also the point of a server is for it to accessable 24/7…so dont turn off the pc not recmended for your pc u use everyday.

You dont need that, go with any host!

Manually submit your site to google

and then in the html add this

but use your keywords, its one of the best ways of getting high rankings, thats how google searches for sites and gives them the top ranks
