The best AFFORDABLE internet connection would be a cable-based connection. Contact your local cable provider and set up internet through them (it’s most likely Comcast, 1-888-COMCAST).

It sounds like your ISP isn’t the problem, as far as getting re-directed to shopping sites. It sounds like you have adware problems. Get a good anti-malware program (I use Windows Live Onecare http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm .)
As far as the freezing problem, do you have the filters installed on EVERY PHONE OUTLET in your home? If you do, then make sure you have the lines in the right sides. I had SBC Yahoo, & it froze when I got a call, until I got the filters installed correctly.
If you really want to change ISP’s, then you could try getting internet service through your local cable company.

If Comcast is in your area, I strongly recommend it. If you don’t know what Comcast is, it is a Cable company that provides Cable TV, High speed Internet, and most recently Digital home phone service. High speed Internet is a little pricy @ $ 45 a month, but it is well worth it for the speed and the security features. There are no usage costs, it’s all unlimited. They have great support. Great features: Comcast gives you 7 free email accounts. Free online storage(great for backing up your photos in case of computer crash), Free McAfee Security Firewall and Privacy protector(protects you from getting your credit card numbers and other personal information from being stolen),and “Disney Connection” for the kids. Best of all, it is over the cable line, so you won’t get interrupted during a phone call. They even give you a cable modem (i like to call the Internet box) included in the monthly fee of $ 45. I have to say that I have never had a problem with it except for once, but that was a problem with my computer. Anyway, Comcast tech.s came out the next day and fixed the problem at no additional cost even though it had nothing to do with the Internet connection. I really really hope this helps. And if you don’t want High speed Internet form Comcast, Try Clearwire. it’s 100% pure over-the-air internet service.

I am not sure what providers you have but I would definitely stay away from Verizon bot internet and wireless. they are slow internet provider and down alot. The wireless phones have bad connections and drop alot of calls. I have them and they are so bad I am almost willing to pay the cancellation fee to get out.
