and I lose power and/or internet, will any emails sent to me during that time be lost for good?

It depends on the amount of downtime. An email server will queue a message, if the message can’t be sent within a certain time frame, then the message is sent back to the original server and the user will receive an error message. The time frame is specified by the mail server administrator, so it could fluctuate.
If your mail server were down for a few hours, you should be alright. But, if it were down for a few days, then you are probably going to miss some email.
But, if messages are not sent to you, then the sender will receive a delivery failure message. It’s not like the messages just get lost.
