Residential & Commercial Cleaning business in FL License?
Question by Bobby D: Residential & Commercial Cleaning business in FL License?
Hello, I have a new start up residential and commercial cleaning business in FL. We primarily work in surrounding Jacksonville and Tallahassee areas. I have done the following:
* resisted my “factious name” for DBA
* Registered and received my fed EIN
* received and pd Jax occupational license tax
* received a TLH “business registration certificate”
My question is with these forms does it mean I am “licensed”? What else do I need to do? What other forms do I need to file? I checked the Florida DBPR site and it does not show my license.
I want to ensure we are fully licensed but don’t know what else to do. Please assist!

Here is an overview of business registration in the US in general

Most states have licensing regulated by both the Secretary of State or the Attorney General’s Office. I do not beleive that Florida has a licensing reqirement for cleaning businesses (if you were a contracto/repair business it would be another story)
Good Luck

I am also in the process of starting a cleaning business in nevada. I had to get my business license, dba, general liability and my business partner and i had to get bonded. A good start is visiting a Score (www.score.org.com) SCORE is a nationwide organization of active and retired business men and women who volunteer their services to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs. SCORE provides free business counseling and offers free and low-cost workshops on a variety of business topics. office or maybe consultating with a CPA . Hopes this helps…

Just keep it going. If you get in trouble remember one thing
“Its easier to beg for forgiveness then it its for permission.”
I would be worried about getting insurance prior to cleaning. We live in a very litigious society my friend. Also make sure your corporate structure is intact.(LLC, Corp, etc)

You better check with your County Clerk at your local Courhouse and make sure your business shows up with the Tax Assessors Office too.

Hey Buddy D I live in New York and here in N.Y. we have a 311# which we can call for any matters which concerns the city or. If i had that problem i would call the city…they would put me on to the small business association who would point me in the right direction direction. See if you don’t have a 311# to call or some thing similar.

You are “licensed” to do business in Florida. You probably want to check with Workmen’s Comp to register. Usually cleaning companies are licensed and “bonded”, so contact your insurance agent to find out how much it costs to get bonded. This will protect you if you break something or one of your people steals something.
